Which surfaces is VP Platinum Ecopox WA suitable for?
VP Platinum Ecopox WA is suitable for various surfaces. Below is a guide per surface with short steps:
Rough concrete Consumption is approximately 5 m² per kg. A 10 kg container covers 50 m². No primer is required for this surface. Thin the first coat by 5–10%. Degrease, lightly sand, and make the floor dust-free. Apply 2 layers of Epoxy for optimal thickness and coverage. For extremely heavy usage, we recommend a third transparent PU coating. The second layer will have average consumption, depending on the thickness applied.
Stone Consumption is approximately 5 m² per kg.
Concrete screed Consumption is approximately 5 m² per kg.
Self-levelling floor Consumption is approximately 5 m² per kg. A 10 kg container covers 50 m². No primer is required for this surface. Thin the first coat by 10–15%. Degrease, lightly/moderately sand, and make the floor dust-free. Apply 2 layers of Epoxy for optimal thickness and coverage. For extremely heavy usage, we recommend a third transparent PU coating. The second layer will have average consumption, depending on the thickness applied. Some self-levelling floors have a very closed structure. For this, we recommend strongly diluting the first coat with acrylic thinner or applying a primer.
Polished Concrete
Consumption is approximately 6 m² per kg. A 10 kg container covers 60 m². For this surface, a primer is always required. Without a primer, adhesion will be insufficient. Degrease the floor, sand it moderately/well, and ensure it is dust-free. Apply an epoxy primer, followed by 2 layers of Epoxy for optimal thickness and coverage. For extremely heavy usage, we recommend an additional third transparent PU coating. The second layer will have average consumption depending on the applied thickness.
Old Paint Layer Consumption over an old paint layer is 6 to 7 m² per kg depending on the layer thickness.
What is the consumption per m² of Platinum Ecopox WA?
The consumption of a floor coating greatly depends on the surface. It is nearly impossible to specify this precisely. The layer thickness also affects the usage. Below is an overview of the average consumption of the VP Platinum Ecopox WA coating for one layer:

Painting Floor Tiles For this, we recommend a PU-based coating. Our VP Platinum Tile Paint is the most suitable product.
What colours can this product be mixed in?
We can mix VP Platinum Ecopox WA in any possible colour using our state-of-the-art mixing machine. However, as this is not an everyday product for colour mixing, slight colour deviations might occur with tricky colours. This is mainly due to the two-component nature of the product, which can result in subtle differences during mixing.
What brush should I use for Epoxy coating?
We recommend using a disposable brush for applying Epoxy coating. The downside of epoxy coating is that brushes need to be discarded immediately after use, so it’s not worth using an expensive one.
What is the mixing ratio of Ecopox WA?
VP Epoxy WA requires a mixing ratio of 5 : 1. This means 5 parts coating and 1 part hardener. For a 5 kg package, the ratio is:
Ecopox WA Coating: 4.2 kg
Ecopox WA Hardener: 0.8 kg
What paint roller should I use?
We recommend nylon rollers for applying Epoxy coating. Their primary advantage is achieving the perfect layer thickness alongside a streak-free finish. Our nylon roller can also be simply disposed of after use.
Are there alternatives to this product?
VP Platinum Epoxy EP: A thinner-based epoxy coating that unfortunately has a strong smell during application. However, the product quality is excellent.
VP Topcoat PU: A polyurethane-based coating even stronger than epoxy coating. For heavily-used floors, we always recommend a PU-based topcoat or this coating.
Step-by-Step Guide for Using VP Ecopox WA
Step 1 Inspection Check whether the floor is dry. If a moisture meter indicates between 3% and 4%, the floor is dry enough for coating. Alternatively, tape a clear plastic sheet over the floor and leave it for 24 hours. If moisture or condensation appears inside the plastic, the surface is still too damp. Newly-poured floors require at least 2 weeks before they can be coated, depending on thickness, temperature, and humidity.
Check that the floor has adequate firmness by applying and removing a strong adhesive tape. The tape should come off cleanly. For self-levelling floors, ensure they can be coated by trying to make a cut with a utility knife. If no cut is possible, the surface is likely robust enough for coating.
Ensure the area temperature is between 10–25°C, with 20°C being optimal. Floor temperature should be at least 10°C, and relative humidity (RH) should fall between 60–85%.
Step 2 Preparation Ensure the floor is dry, clean, and free of dust and grease. We recommend using b-clean industrial cleaner to remove rubber tyre marks or oil stains. Sweep and vacuum the floor thoroughly before coating. Lightly sand any uneven areas, if necessary. Optionally, mask walls up to 50 cm. Always mix a small amount of coating to check the appropriate ratio (Component A : Component B as per the product sheet).
Step 3 Application Stir Component A (coating/colour) thoroughly, then mix with Component B (hardener) using a machine. Mix for a minimum of 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is achieved.
*Apply a first layer, diluted 10%, to deeply impregnate the floor.
*Apply undiluted second/third layers of Epoxy coating.
Move the mixture into a clean bucket and mix briefly again before transferring it to a roller tray. Apply using a 2K nylon roller (18–25 cm), and optionally follow up with a 50 cm roller.
During drying, ensure adequate ventilation to expel evaporating water. Uneven application or poor ventilation may cause inconsistent gloss levels.
- Walkable after 16 hours at 20°C.
- Optional 2nd/3rd layers can be applied after 20 hours at 20°C.
Note: Newly-poured self-levelling floors need at least 2 weeks before coating can be applied.
