Jotun Benar
Jotun Benar is an alkyd-based (turpentine) varnish. This transparent varnish is available in a beautiful matt, semi-gloss, or high-gloss finish. The great thing about this product is that it can be used both indoors and outdoors. It should be applied to wooden surfaces such as windows, doors, frames, or specific wooden furniture and fences. Jotun Benar can withstand high humidity and warm temperatures. For the first 4 to 6 years, you’ll barely need to maintain the products it’s used on as it’s maintenance-free during this period.

What can Jotun Benar be used for?
Jotun Benar is a transparent varnish for protecting your woodwork. If you’re looking for a high-quality transparent varnish that will allow you to forget about maintenance for years, then Jotun Benar is the right product for you. Benar is suitable for all (tropical) hardwood types such as afzelia, sipo mahogany, afromosia, teak, meranti, merbau, wenge, tola branca, basralocus, and more.
What is the product's coverage per m²?
The average coverage of Jotun Benar varnish is 15 m² per litre. However, our experience shows that most painters achieve a coverage between 10 to 12 m² per litre. It’s always better to have a bit more varnish than to run out.
What colours is this product available in?
Jotun Benar is a standard product that we only sell as-is. It is available in matt and high-gloss finishes, and the Jotun UVR variant is available in the colour teak.
Which roller or brush should I use?
You can apply Jotun Benar using a high-quality brush or roller. For brushes, we recommend the VP Gold Mix Brush. If you prefer a roller, we suggest the VP Lacquer Roller Universal.
What gloss levels are available for Jotun Benar?
Jotun Benar UVR is available in a semi-gloss finish. A high-gloss finish has a gloss level of 60 to 90, while semi-gloss has a gloss level of 30 to 60. Semi-gloss finishes are ideal for hiding less attractive spots, whereas high-gloss finishes are easier to clean and more resistant to dirt.
