Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura
Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura is a lacquer designed for indoor use. This is a paint for a lacquer layer on wood, metal, and hard plastics. This product is a premium brand, ensuring absolute quality.
Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura is a satin-finish lacquer based on acrylic (water-based). This ensures the paint will not yellow and will not produce unpleasant odours in your home. We can mix this lacquer in any possible colour. It is intended for finishing wood, hard plastics, concrete, plasterwork, etc., after pre-treatment with Rubbol BL Primer. It is also suitable for cleaned and sanded alkyd resin paint layers. This lacquer is intended for indoor application. It is a premium product of very professional quality, as Sikkens is a brand of the Dutch paint company AkzoNobel. Sikkens is generally considered one of the best brands/products in the field of paint and lacquer. Due to its reliability, quality, and long lifespan, many painting companies and professional painters use Sikkens paint.
Pros and Cons
- Quick drying
- No risk of yellowing
- No odour during application
- Not suitable for outdoor use
Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura offers very high coverage with excellent flow and is wear and scratch-resistant. This ensures you don’t have to worry about scratches on your painted surfaces. Rubbol BL Satura is easy to clean with your usual cleaning products. The ideal application temperature is 5-30 degrees Celsius, with a maximum humidity of 85%. Under ideal conditions (20 degrees), this lacquer is repaintable after 6 hours, allowing you to complete the job over the weekend. Another major advantage of this lacquer is that it is ready to use and does not need to be diluted. Of course, you can dilute the lacquer if you prefer. Use water or an acrylic thinner for this purpose.
Frequently Asked Questions About This Product
Which brush do I need?
For applying acrylic paint and lacquer, it is important to choose the right brush. The right brush ensures the lacquer is applied evenly, with optimal absorption and release. We believe the VP Synthetic Brush contains the right synthetic fibres for the best result. This brush is made up of various fibres, combining a selection of synthetic fibres.
Which roller do I need?
When using a roller, it is important to achieve a smooth and even finish. You don’t want to be picking lint out of your paintwork. Absorption and release are essential here. We recommend using the VP Superflock Acrylic Roller for working with acrylic lacquer or paint.
Which primer do I need?
Primer and undercoat serve the same purpose. It ensures good adhesion of the final product and is cost-effective for absorbent surfaces. A primer reduces the absorbency of surfaces, allowing more square metres to be covered per litre of paint. This ultimately results in the best finish and saves costs.
When should I use this product?
Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura is suitable for protecting all indoor woodwork, such as doors, stairs, and window frames. Sikkens Rubbol BL is an easy-to-apply product for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.
What are the benefits of water-based lacquer?
For indoor projects, acrylic lacquer is the ideal product. This lacquer does not produce unpleasant odours during application in your home, and because it does not contain white spirit, your colours will not yellow over time.
What is the coverage per m²?
The coverage of Sikkens lacquers is 12 to 16 m² per litre. However, our experience is slightly different, as most painters achieve a coverage of 10 to 12 m² per litre with Sikkens lacquer. It’s better to have a little too much paint than too little.
In which colours can it be mixed?
We can mix any possible colour with our mixing system. To mix your desired colour, you can simply select the colour in our colour picker or contact us. For mixing Sikkens paints and lacquers, we exclusively use the official Sikkens mixing machine, including the corresponding mixing pigments.

Which gloss level do you recommend?
For exterior lacquer, high gloss is the most suitable. High gloss lacquer has a longer lifespan. The surface is smooth, which means less dirt adheres to the lacquer. Additionally, it is easier to clean. Gloss is always indicated with a number.
A high gloss lacquer should have a gloss level of 60 to 90. A satin finish has a gloss level of 30 to 60, and matte paint should remain below 30. These values are measured by the manufacturer. In some cases, we recommend a satin lacquer. This is advised when the surface is not 100% smooth. Inexperienced DIYers also often choose satin lacquer, as it is easier to hide small imperfections in the surface.
High Gloss (60-90): Ideal for outdoor work
Satin (30-60): Ideal for surfaces with imperfections
Matte Paint (less than 30): Ideal for indoor work
Are there alternatives?
Sikkens Rubbol BL Rezisto Semi Gloss: This is a similar type of lacquer that is also water-based. However, this lacquer has a different gloss level and is therefore a Semi Gloss. This means it sits between high gloss and satin. If you’re unsure or torn between high gloss and satin, this is a great middle ground for you.
VP Platina Aqua Satin: This is an interior lacquer from our own brand, which we have brought to the market ourselves. This is also reflected in the price. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative with the same qualities, this is the product for you.
VP Platina Aqua Gloss: This product is the same as the Aqua Satin from our own brand. It is also a water-based interior lacquer with a good price/quality ratio. This lacquer has the highest gloss level and is therefore a high gloss lacquer that reflects light beautifully and enhances your chosen colour.
