What is stair lacquer?

Stair lacquer is a type of paint used for lacquering wooden stairs. For example, you might apply a lacquer coating to a wooden staircase to give it a smooth and polished finish. Indoors, you always use a water-based (acrylic) lacquer for flooring. A key feature of stair lacquer is its scratch and wear resistance, ensuring that your stairs remain protected from damage.

Transparent stair lacquer

Stair lacquers are available as solid-colour options, which we can mix to your preferred shade, or as transparent lacquers, some of which can even include a transparent anti-slip coating. Transparent stair lacquer is available in both single-component (1K) and two-component (2K) options, with 2K being even more scratch and wear-resistant.

What types of stair lacquer are there?

There are many types of stair lacquer, and all indoor stair lacquers are water-based. These are ideal for internal use as they don’t produce strong odours. There’s also a choice between single-component (1K) and two-component (2K) lacquers. A 2K stair lacquer includes a hardener that you mix into the lacquer. This creates a chemical reaction, hardening the lacquer to an extremely tough finish that resists scratches and scuffs on your stairs.
